Auditions for the he award-winning Central Arkansas Children’s Choir (CACC) will be held beginning at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The audition is about a 10-minute process and may be scheduled by calling 450-5755 or 450-3672 by 10 a.m. Saturday morning. A prepared piece is not required. Contact the CSM office for further information or go to uca.edu/csm and click on the CACC link.

Students who are unable to audition by Saturday may still audition through the second rehearsal. CACC rehearsals begin Monday, Aug. 29.

Part of the UCA Community School of Music, the CACC rehearses each Monday of the school year from 6-7:30 p.m. and is open to students in grades 4-9. The CACC is led by Dr. Ryan Fisher and assisted by Dr. Paige Rose of the UCA Music faculty and consists of Choristers (a training choir) and the Concert Choir. Bart Dooley, music specialist at Ida Burns Elementary, assists as accompanist.

According to Jann Bryant, CSM director, "We are looking for students who love to sing and are committed to working hard, but also having fun. We want all students who wish to participate to have an opportunity to do so. Because tuition payments are harder for many families at this time, we are asking for donations for need-based scholarships.

"For many of our former students, the training they received in the CACC gave them the skills to receive college vocal scholarships, so it can make a big difference in a young person’s life. These donations are tax deductible. Anyone wishing to help a child participate in this wonderful ensemble should contact me at 501-450-5755 or email me at jannb@uca.edu for details about donating. Donations of any amount will be gladly accepted."

Students receive instruction in vocal technique, learn a variety of music in many styles and languages, perform several concerts each semester, and compete in a regional competition annually in the spring. Fisher stated in a recent announcement, "We have a lot of great performance opportunities this year and hope many new excited and gifted young singers will join us. This fall we will sing with Pat Boone in Reynolds Performance Hall and again be featured in the Conway Symphony Orchestra Christmas Concert. In the spring, we will collaborate with the University of Arkansas Children’s Choir for a special joint concert and also participate in the Windy City Youth Choral Festival in Chicago’s historic Orchestra Hall."
