With help from public tips, Conway police arrested a 55-year-old Dover man in connection to a tree theft reported by Wiedower Dentistry on Oct. 19.

Online records show Michael Peter Bonacich was being held in the county jail in lieu of a $2,500 bond as of press time Wednesday. He is charged with felony theft of property, a Class D felony.

Conway Police Department spokesman LaTresha Woodruff said Bonacich allegedly made off with more than a dozen trees valued at more than $1,000 from Wiedower Dentistry on 810 Salem Road on Oct. 19.

CPD released surveillance footage earlier this week in hopes the public could help identify the suspect captured on camera.

In the surveillance video posted to CPD’s Facebook page, Bonacich could be seen going back and forth to his vehicle with trees after the business had closed.

"After dark and while the business was closed, the suspect approached the business on foot and walked behind the business where the trees were waiting to be planted," Woodruff said. "The suspect spent some time looking through the selection of trees, which included Japanese Maples and Sugar Maples, and choosing which trees he wanted."

Surveillance footage also shows Bonacich circling the building several hours before the alleged theft.

Woodruff said Wednesday all of the stolen property was recovered.

"Police found all of the stolen trees," she said. "We appreciate all of the tips."
