The Conway Jaycees will present their 2010 Christmas parade, "Star-Spangled Christmas - A Salute to Our Troops," at 5 p.m. Dec. 11.
Chad Peterson, president of the Conway Jaycees, estimated an average of 30 floats are entered in the parade each year, in addition to a number of parade "walkers," marching bands, area beauty queens, classic car entries and participants riding horses.
"Probably between 20 and 30 have registered so far this year, and I have been getting phone calls since October," Peterson said. "The community does a great job of being actively involved in the parade."
Peterson said the theme of the parade was inspired by the patriotic parade theme of another Jaycee chapter.
"I saw it, and I just thought it was a great idea," Peterson said. "It’s something that’s very important and it’s something that we need to remember this time of year."
Parade entry forms and general information about parade day activities may be obtained by contacting the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce at 501-327-7788.
Participants must turn in all registration forms by 4 p.m. Dec. 7.
Entrants should arrive at the starting point by 4:30 p.m. on parade day.
The parade route will begin at the corner of Markham and Van Ronkle Streets and end at the corner of Front and Mill streets.
The parade will culminate in an appearance by Santa Claus on the Conway Junior Chamber of Commerce float.
In case of rain, the parade will be held at the same time and location on Monday, Dec. 13.
