The annual student competitive art exhibition will open at the University of Central Arkansas’s Baum Gallery in McCastlain Hall on March 10.
Opening receptions will be from 4-6 p.m. March 10 and from 2-4 p.m. March 13. Both the exhibition and receptions are free and open to the public.
"The annual student competitive exhibition is a fun show," Baum Gallery Director Barbara Satterfield said. "It means a lot for those who enter. There’s the prestige of being selected, but also the excitement of students from all over campus coming to support friends — it’s a big deal, and there is always a surprise."
The competitive, sponsored by the UCA department of art, will be on display until March 31.
Students are encouraged to submit art in all mediums for consideration and may enter up to three submissions for free. The deadline for submissions is at 5 p.m. March 4; works are to be delivered to the Baum Gallery. Students are encouraged to submit art in any medium. Artists whose work is selected will be notified March 7.
Students may submit entry forms online via the Baum Gallery’s website at www.uca.edu/art/baum. Entry forms can be found there under "Exhibits and Events." Entry forms are also available at the Baum Gallery or the Department of Art office in McAlister Hall.
Satterfield said the juror usually selects approximately 50 works for the exhibition and designates up to eight student artists to receive three tiers of cash awards that recognize excellence.
Doug Cason was selected by the department of art faculty to be this year’s juror. He earned his master of fine arts at the University of Houston after completing his BFA at the University of Texas. He has had solo exhibits in California and Texas and has exhibited in numerous juried group shows, including the current Sketchbook Project exhibit touring to Washington, D.C., Boston, Chicago and New York. His work is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.
Hours for the Baum Gallery are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. For more information, contact Satterfield at 501- 450-5793 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
