Faulkner County Relay for Life will be held beginning at 6 p.m. April 8 at and ending at noon April 9. This 18-hour event is set to take place at the University of Central Arkansas’ Estes Stadium.
Relay teams are still forming. Visit www.relayforlife.org/faulkner to register a team. Interested parties may also contact the Team Development chair, Stephanie Ramsey, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Teams will camp out and take turns walking the track during the 18 hours of the event. The community is encouraged to attend.
After opening festivities that include a Survivor’s walk, teams will have on-site fundraisers at their tents in a carnival-like atmosphere. During the event will be the second "Mr." Relay Pageant and the touching Luminaria service where those who are in the fight, survived, or lost the fight are honored. The cost is $5 for a Luminaria bag with a loved one’s name.
These bags line the track and keep the walkers motivated during the night. A Luminaria with a loved one’s picture is $10. There will be a powerpoint presentation during the Luminaria service. Those who would like to honor someone with a Luminaria should contact Jessica at email@example.com by March 28.
"This year our Relay theme is ‘The Colors of Cancer,’" said Callie Miller, one of the event’s co-chairs. "We not only want the community to come out and have a great time, but to be educated, as well. Each team will theme their tent around a specific cancer and provide some sort of educational information for that cancer."
In case of inclement weather the event will move indoors to the UCA Farris Center.
