A evacuated home in the Northwoods subdivision has been burglarized, Mayflower Police Chief Robert Satkowski confirmed Monday.

Although area police and other law enforcement officials have maintained a security presence in the Northwoods subdivision, including a portion that has remained evacuated since the oil spill on March 29, at least one home has been broken into, according to Mayflower officials.

A report filed Saturday said that a person or persons entered a house on North Starlite Drive through the back window and rifled through belongings, throwing clothes on the floor. Satkowski said that if someone came from the woods, it would be very hard to detect from the street.

In response, Exxon officials have purchased large flood lights for the area.
