While severe weather is possible in areas of the state this weekend, none is expected Friday, the National Weather Service said.

Meteorologist John Robinson said showers and thunderstorms are expected in Arkansas throughout Saturday with storms that night having a small chance to produce hail in the northern and central parts of the state.

Moving into Sunday afternoon and the early evening hours, severe weather will be possible in eastern Arkansas, with the area of risk falling east of a line form Pocahontas to Searcy to Pine Bluff to Crossett, Robinson said. Damaging winds is expected to be the greatest threat, although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Robinson said not all areas of the state will receive rainfall, however, places that do receive rain should expect between 1/4 and 3/4-inch. Some totals in the eastern region of the state could reach an inch.
