A 26-year-old Greenbrier man is charged with negligent homicide following a fatal 2016 pile up.
Formal charges were filed against Lumas James Barker on Tuesday in reference to a Dec. 13, 2016, incident that left one woman dead.
The accident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. along Highway 65, just north of Skyline Drive, when a Dodge Dart veered into the southbound lane and struck the 2000 Toyota Echo that 50-year-old Carolyn Ann Finley of Greenbrier was driving, according to an Arkansas State Police report.
Finley’s car spun approximately 180 degrees before being hit head-on by a 2012 Ford Explorer.
Barker, who was driving the Dodge Dart, veered back into the northbound lane just before Finley "veered backwards off the west side of the roadway where [she] was ejected," according to the report.
Finley was pronounced dead on the scene and Barker was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock for treatment.
Prosecuting Attorney Cody Hiland said Barker faces a negligent homicide charge after allegedly falling asleep behind the wheel.
Court records show Barker was booked in the county jail at 8:17 a.m. Friday and released on a $500 bond at 8:20 a.m.
A court date had not yet been set by press time Friday.
