Catherine Elizabeth Raines and John Randall Sims were united in marriage July 25 at the Albert Pike Memorial Temple in downtown Little Rock. James Ray Raines, grandfather of the bride, and Paul Hudson officiated the ceremony.
Parents of the couple are Dr. and Mrs. Tommy Raines of Camden and Mr. and Mrs. Randy Sims of Conway. Grandparents of the bride are the Rev. and Mrs. James Ray Raines of North Little Rock, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gilreath of New Iberia, La., and Mr. and Mrs. Archie Smith of Dilliner, Pa.
The groom’s grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lew Sorrells of Brinkley and Mrs. Carbon Sims of Arkadelphia. The Arkansas Symphony Quartet, Daniel Sims, brother of the groom, and Bethany Whitfield provided nuptial music.
The bride was given away by her father. She wore a Stephen Yearick gown of silk organza over satin and Alencon lace re-embroidered with silver thread.
The strapless fitted bodice was hand beaded with Swavorski crystals and rhinestones in a silver vine and leaf pattern and had hand beaded bugle beads and crystals descending over the bodice. The back extended into a deep V with a dropped asymmetrical waistline and the full a-line skirt and train featured cascading silk organza ruffles and ostrich feathers that were vertically falling to the hem.
She carried a hand tied bouquet of white phaleanopsis orchids with a collar of raspberry peonies. The stems were bound in wine ribbon with a rhinestone broach.
Hayden Walker and Malory Williams served as Matron and Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids included Lindsey Gregory, Brittany McClain, Haley Bryan, Ann Marie Jordan, Marci Morgan, Meredith Curtis and Carly Secrest. Attendants wore dresses designed by the bride.
The dresses were alternating colors of purple, fuchsia and wine with alternating necklines. They carried hand-tied nosegay of Ravel and Black Magic Roses with Naomi dahlias and peacock feathers.
Zachary Wright served as best man. Groomsmen included Paul Budd, Jeffrey Humble, Eric Hayes, Dillon McClain, Cody Walker, Andrew Curtis, Timothy Rountree and Josh Sims.
The flower girls, Anne Elisabeth Pratt and Brooklyn Pratt, wore solid white pettiskirts and matching white tops with feathered angel wings, and halos covered with small feathers and miniature garden roses. Sam Looney was the ring bearer and Jennifer Vaughn, performed a lyrical ballet during the lighting of the unity candle.
The honorary bridesmaids included Erica Dierich, Abbie Dunham, Ashly Buelow, Nicole Stuart, Megan Lindsey, Taylor Post and Joy Livers.
Ushers included Stephen Raines, Andrew Ellenberg, Robi McDonald, Jake Sligh and Bruce Brockinton.
The focal area of the ceremony was a hand-painted custom backdrop provided by the Albert Pike Memorial Temple with chandeliers and custom lighting to illuminate the bride and groom.
The reception was held in the dining hall of the Albert Pike Memorial Temple. The room was filled with tables covered in an array of pink fabrics and everything from tall arrangements of roses and dahlias with hot pink ostrich plumes extending from them to low massed arrangements of roses and ostrich feathers in hot pink and the room was illuminated with pink and violet custom lighting.
The five-tiered wedding cake was covered with white fondant and had a tri-colored icing ribbon cascading down the side. The groom’s cake was shaped and decorated like a medical bag.
After a honeymoon to Playa Mujeres Mexico, the couple returned to Little Rock where the groom is attending medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and the bride is employed by Aerocare.
