Wiley ‘Bill’ Tipton

Wiley "Bill" Tipton, of Bigelow, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009. 

He was born Aug. 1, 1918, to the late J.T. Tipton and Dona (Lee) Tipton in Tishmingo, Okla.  

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Ackerman) Tipton of Bigelow; six children, Roger (Shirley) of Horatio, Robert "Bob" (Janet) of Bigelow, Randall (Linda) of Emmett, Eual Gene (Shandra) of Bigelow, Nancy (Dale) Talley of Shawnee, Kan., and Glenda (Jeff) Smith of Bigelow; 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends, all who will miss him dearly.

Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Joy Lynn Tipton; a great-granddaughter; his parents; two brothers and four sisters.

Bill served six years in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  

He was detached to the 1940 World’s Fair in New York City and served in the Atlantic Theater aboard the USS Jacob Jones, USS Babbitt and USS Gen J.R. Jones.  

Bill was a member of the Bigelow Baptist Church, a life member of the DAV and VFW.  

He was an avid fox and deer hunter.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home in Conway.  

Burial will follow in Volman Cemetery in Bigelow.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home, 1715 Dave Ward Drive, Conway, AR 72034, 327-5000.
