Roses Among Thorns
Roses Among Thorns attended an overnight retreat Oct. 14-15 at Mount Eagle camp.
The theme was "Sisterhood of Roses Spa Retreat". 35 roses and volunteers met at Springhill Baptist church to carpool to the retreat. Packets were handed out and door prizes were drawn for.
Door prize drawings were held through out the retreat. Charlotte Ballew gave each one attending a gift bag of goodies and homemade cookies to enjoy from her on the trip.
Upon arrival to Mount Eagle, a delicious lunch was served and prepared for us by Lou Harding and her assistants at the camp. We then had free time to set up our rooms and go enjoy the breath taking views of the mountain.
The fall leaves were beautiful. Our first session was Girlfriend share time. Each one shared their life stories. It was a beautiful and inspirational time enjoyed by all. We all met in the great room for a delicious dinner followed by more free time. Second session was a PJ party and girlfriend spa time.
Dollie Fields from Morrilton, a massage therapist, donated her time to give the ones that wanted it, a 30 minute massage. A drawing was held to determine the winners. Allison Jones from Greenbrier, also a massage therapist, brought her massage chair and gave back and neck massages. Terry Clifton, a volunteer to the roses, styled hair to anyone that wanted it. Clara Huie assisted in foot baths and foot products. Linda Dickey and some of the Roses assisted in manicures. These ladies were a blessing to us all.
Following our spa time, Terry Clifton was in charge of the games. We split up in groups to play cards and dominoes. Some played until the wee hours of the morning. We met back in the great room for a delicious breakfast.
Third session was a devotion led by Marilyn Mathis from Conway. She had a very healing and powerful message titled "RX for spiritual fitness". Her text was taken from Joshua 3 and 4. She reminded us that we all have our Jordan’s to cross but through a relationship with God, we will get through these tough times.
There was a lot of fun, laughter and healing that took place on this mountain and all agreed to do this again next year. At each session gifts were presented to each one present including a travel mug in pink and silver with the roses among thorns logo on it.
We enjoyed another delicious lunch before adjourning to load up and head back home. The drive home was beautiful. Our next regular meeting will be Wednesday Nov. 18.
If you or any women you know who has cancer or is a survivor and would be interested in attending, please call Linda Dickey to reserve your seat at (501) 679-2931 or (501) 472-1120.
