Joe Brinkley, 81, of Conway, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010. 

A lifelong committed Christian and a member of the Gideon Society, Joe retired from the Arkansas National Guard as a Lt. Col. where he was post commander at Camp Robinson.  

After retirement, he enjoyed golfing and trout fishing on the Little Red River at Rainbow Island in Pangburn.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Carl "Burt" and Jewell Brinkley; brothers, Sherrill and John Brinkley; and his sister, Irene Brinkley Zinn.

Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor Brinkley of Conway; his sister, Betty Weber of Gainesville, Fla.; his children, Carl and daughter-in-law Rebecca Brinkley of Seattle, Wash., and Janet Blok of Pangburn; grandchildren, Benjamin Brinkley, Clair Noonan, Weston Brinkley, Aaron Gimblet, Staff Sgt. Andre’ Norvell and Margaret Laigaie; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway from 9-10 a.m. on Friday with services to follow at 10 a.m.  

Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Little Rock.  

Memorials may be made to the Gideon Society International.
