Mrs. Jessie Boardman was hostess to the Dinner Book Club at her home, 228 Davis St. Covers were placed for Dr. Ada Jane Harvey, Misses Ora Blackmun, Mattie Sanders, Edith Langley, Jessie Montgomery, Maud Carmichael, Mrs. Paul T. McHenry and the hostess. After dinner, Mrs. McHenry reviewed "the Golden Vanity" by Isabel Patterson.

Mrs. and Mrs. Joe T. Parrott and daughter, Martha Lou were spending the weekend with relatives in Tuckerman. Miss Mildred Ivy of Tuckerman, a student in Central College, accompanied them.



50 years ago 


The Fidelis Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church met at the home of Mrs. James Hicks with Mrs. Coy Walthall as co-hostess. Mrs. Sam Carter opened the meeting with prayer. Minutes were read by Mrs. Wilson Drews. Mrs. Neil S. Floyd presented the devotional on "Do Not Be Afraid of Sentiment," and read a closing prayer, "The Greatest Gift of all," by Patricia Mongean. Cherry tarts placed on red lace hearts, salted nuts and coffee were served during the social hour.  The hostesses were assisted by Miss Ruth Jo Hicks. 

Dr. and Mrs. Fred Gordy and her mother, Mrs. Inez Perry, of Little Rock and Mr. and Mrs. George W. Ligon honored Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Moore with an open house at the Gordy home.

Betty Dunaway and Pete Hart of Century 21, Dunaway & Hart Inc., returned from a meeting of the Real Estate Leaders of America in Atlanta, Ga.

The Family Dental Center, office of Dr. Ray Hambuchen and Dr. Leo Crafton, moved to new offices at 550 Chestnut St. The office had been located at 601 Chestnut St.

The fourth grade class at Ellen Smith Elementary School ended a class study unit on the Mardi Grad celebration in New Orleans. Kirsten Andersen was crowned queen and Ryan Gorman was crowned king of the celebration. Class members distributed necklaces to all students during a parade. Mrs. Norma Nelson was the teacher of the class.

Denver Prince, a Conway builder and former chairman of the physics department at the University of Central Arkansas, was the new chairman of the board of directors of the Conway Unit of the Salvation Army. Elected vice chairman was Don Taylor. Bill Parsley was named treasurer. Members of the board included the Rev. George Andrews, Kathy Andrews, Hal Crafton, Betty Dunaway, Bill Farris, Mark Ferguson, Bob Hambuchen Sr., Steele Hays, Bill Hegeman, the Rev. Cornell Maltbia, Cordia Mote, Barbara Jean Nabholz, Dr. Jerry Park and Fred Petrucelli.

Xi Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Gena Bishop. Service committee chairman Carolyn Jones made suggestions for a service project to provide items for teenage girls living at Help for Abuse Victims in Emergency Need (HAVEN). Refreshments were served by co-hostesses Nancy Penny and Suzanne Webb. Ms. Penny presented a program on the history of time and how it related to the new millennium.
