LITTLE ROCK (AP) — A legislative panel is no longer recommending that the Arkansas Lottery Commission be designated a law enforcement agency.

The lottery's legislative oversight committee on Thursday removed the recommendation from proposed lottery legislation. A day earlier, the panel made the recommendation after the lottery's director said it was needed for the commission to hire its own armed security.

The panel is recommending changes to the state's lottery law to be included in legislation setting lottery-funded scholarship amounts.
