BEE BRANCH — Guy-Perkins and Mount Vernon-Enola are no strangers to close games.

When the two schools meet, there is usually a small margin.

That held true Saturday night in the 5-1A Conference boys championship game at South Side Bee Branch. This time around, the defending state champion Thunderbirds held on for a 55-53 win.

Denell Henderson led Guy-Perkins with 10 points. Brian Hooten added 13, while Bradley Holbroook and Brandon Rooney had 10 points each. Will Ward added 10 rebounds.

The Guy-Perkins girls also claimed a district title, as they defeated host South Side 57-48.

Lainie Lagassee led the Lady T-birds with 24 points. Lindsey McGhee added 17 points, while Amy Smith scored 11.
