The Conway girls soccer team open 7A-Central play last week with a 2-0 victory over Mount St. Mary.

Conway (4-1-1) had 10 shots on goal, and Mount St. Mary had four. Payton Hart scored over the keeper’s head in the 35th minute of the first half on a ball served in by Kendall Leffert. The Lady Cats’ second goal came in the 51st minute of the second half when Hope Washispack served a long ball into the box. The ball bounced around as several Cats took shots. Caitlyn Carroll finally finished it.

Keeper Brittanie Ashcraft had four saves. Ashley Johnson had three shots on goal. Leah Riner had two shots on goal. Julia Pettit and Kelsey Gunter had strong games in the midfield. Kacey Hight and Madison Dayer led the CHS defense.

"Mount St. Mary was in the title game with Bentonville last year, so to come away with this win is a great start to our conference season," Conway coach Whitney Allison said. "The best thing the girls can do is forget expectations, pressures and rivalries."

The Lady Cats continue the conference season at Cabot tonight.
