While praising the offensive improvement, University of Central Arkansas coach Clint Conque said the Bears had too many missed tackles on defensive after he evaluated the video from the second scrimmage of the preseason on Saturday.
"I did not feel we played as physical on defense as we did the first scrimmage," said Conque.
Quarterback Nathan Dick completed 18 of 25 passes for 215 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He was plaqued by four drops. Back Wynrick Smothers was nine of 16 for 67 yards and one touchdown. Willie Landers caught four passes for 72 yards. Running back Anthony Blackmon rushed for 63 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. Back Terence Bobo had 70 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. Jackie Hinton, seeing limited action, rushed for 38 yards on five carries and a touchdown.
"We played faster and more consistent up front," Conque said.
UCA sustained no new injuries in the scrimmage and got two players who were held out of Saturday's scrimmage, defensive back Seth Allison and wide receiver Isaiah Jackson back today.
The Bears broke preseason camp today and have begun working on their game plan for the Sept. 2 opener against Elizabeth City State.
