SYLAMORE, Ark. (AP) — The Izard County sheriff says a hunter bringing a slain deer out of the woods has died in an ATV accident.

Sheriff Tate Lawrence said Monday that 55-year-old Aubrey Appling died Saturday in the accident about 2 miles north of the Sylamore community in southern Izard County.

According to the Batesville Daily Guard, the sheriff said Appling was driving a four-wheel all-terrain vehicle loaded with a deer he had shot when the ATV overturned in a field and threw Appling to the ground, where his head struck a rock. Izard County Coroner Eddie Howard pronounced Appling dead at the scene.
