FLIPPIN (AP) — Longtime Flippin High School band director Joe Morris has resigned after being arrested on allegations of sexual assault of a 16-year-old student.

The Harrison Daily Times reports 56-year-old Joe Morris was arrested Monday and later released on $10,000 bond. Flippin Superintendent Dale Query told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that Morris resigned Tuesday. Query said Morris had been band director at the school for 16 years.

Morris' attorney — Sam Pasthings — said Morris will plead innocent to a charge of second-degree sexual assault.

Arkansas State Police Lt. Bill Beech said Morris is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with the teenager and the girl told her friends, who encouraged her to tell police.
