POTOMAC, Md. (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and former President Bill Clinton are among those honoring R. Sargent Shriver at a funeral Mass in Maryland.

Shriver's son, Anthony Shriver, welcomed the crowd of hundreds of Kennedy family members, celebrities and political notables on Saturday morning, cracking jokes in the sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Potomac, Md.

Anthony Shriver told those gathered that his father "loved all people, all different types of people from all different backgrounds."

Such stars as U2 frontman Bono, Muhammad Ali and Wyclef Jean came to honor Shriver, who founded the Peace Corps and turned it into an international institution.

Sargent Shriver, known as "Sarge," died Tuesday at age 95.
