What type of business is it? Music Instruction and Instrument Repair Facility
What specifically does your business do? We teach a variety of instruments to people of all ages (babies to adults!) and all skill levels. We also have a guitar repair shop that is certified to do warranty work on Taylor Guitars, and soon will be certified with Fender, Gibson, Martin, and Collings. Our shop is full service, in that, we can do anything from stringing a child’s guitar to repairing the guitar that you drove your truck over!
Owner: Preston Palmer
Why did you decide to open this business/location? It’s been a long time dream of mine to be able to grow a community of musicians that consists of regular folks, kids, and everyone in between. We want to cultivate that community right here in Conway, while being able to service people’s instruments from all over the nation (which we already do!).
What is the best part about owning/operating this business? Getting to watch people become musicians! Music brings such joy to people, and its great being able to have a place that’s sole purpose is to help people learn how to access that joy.
What has been the biggest surprise that has happened since opening this business? Honestly, the biggest surprise to me has been how quickly word has spread about the business. We literally doubled our students in the first 3 weeks of being open. I was shocked (in a good way)! I have also been really amazed at how many people have mentioned that Conway "needs this". That just confirms to me that our town has the capacity to flourish as a creative center. I can’t wait to see it happen!
What is the best piece of advice you received before going into this business? Make sure you surround yourself with people you trust that can help you wade through the day-to-day duties that you will face as a new small business owner. It’s so easy to get consumed with the millions of small daily chores of running a business, and totally lose sight of the goal of nurturing and growing the business or brand as a whole!
What is the most important piece of advice you would give to someone starting out in business? Read "The E-Myth Revisited", and then read it again, and then start looking for a team of likeminded people to help you achieve your goal.
What makes your business unique to Conway and Faulkner County? Our business is unique, in that, we are totally focused on creating new Musicians. We are not a retail store, we are not a Rock Venue. We ARE a place that any one, no matter if they are an infant (see our Kindermusik program starting this summer) or a retiree, can feel totally comfortable coming to learn whatever instrument it is that gets them going. We are place that encourages students to work hard and do there best, whether it is in a private piano lesson or a free clinic on how to run sound for your church youth group. We want to be a POSITIVE influence on anyone that we come in contact with. Our teachers are highly screened and background checked, and are either degreed or have an average of 5 years teaching experience.
Our Repair Facility is unmatched by any in Arkansas. We are the only Authorized Warranty Repair Facility for Taylor guitars in the mid-west. We are trusted by high end and vintage guitar collectors as well as boutique dealers that only sell guitars over 20k. We offer quick, affordable, and extremely high quality repairs on guitars, basses, mandolin, banjo and many others. While we already work on guitars made by these companies, we are currently in process to do Authorized Warranty work for Martin, Gibson, Fender, PRS and Collings. These are the most high profile guitar companies in the world and we are so honored to have the opportunity to partner with them to make it easier for their Arkansas customers to get warranty work done!
We have worked really hard to create a fun, inviting and safe place for you to come to get plugged in to the musical world. We cant wait to get you started!
There will be an open house at the studio at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
