City of Hope Outreach in Conway is set to hold its second annual Red Carpet Gala fundraiser Friday at Conway Country Club.
The faith-based outreach with a presence at Oakwood Village and Brookside trailer park communities uses funds raised from the gala for a learning academy, a kids’ activity program and the Hope Institute.
Phillip Fletcher, City of Hope founder, said the institute instructs volunteers and community members on how to address poverty and those living in poverty.
Funds support an effort to promote literacy, math and life skills for students in kindergarten through seventh-grades, as well as the King’s Club, which provides Saturday activities for child residents at both neighborhoods, Fletcher said.
Other programs through the year supported by the fundraiser are the Christmas Store and community Thanksgiving dinner.
Fletcher said community members donate to stores at both neighborhoods and residents shop among the items for their families’ Christmas presents for a flat fee of $5.
"Funds support our overall effort to have a presence in these low income communities where we are building relationships and advocating for individuals in these low income situations," Fletcher said.
Doors at the event open at 6:30 p.m., and the event kicks off at 7 p.m.
