Robert Riedmatten, 12-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Riedmatten and seventh grade pupil in St. Joseph parochial school here, was awarded second prize in a nationwide safety essay contest conducted by the Young Catholic Messenger of Dayton, Ohio. First prize went to an eighth grade Massachusetts pupil.

Santa Claus and his 42-foot Rocket Ship will be in Conway tomorrow to give free rides to children.

Christmas lights will be turned on downtown tomorrow night to officially begin the Christmas season in Conway. Stores are scheduled to remain open until 8 p.m.

Some 40 merchants are participating in the Santa Claus project.

Ida Adell Swanson of Conway recently had an original poem titled "Father" published in "Hearts on Fire: A Treasury of Poems on Love," published by the American Poetry Association.

Volunteer Nick Palangio carved a turkey at the Bethlehem House on Thursday for the Thanksgiving feast. This is the first time Palangio has volunteered for Thanksgiving.
