At the scheduled close of the Log Cabin Democrat’s Community Christmas Card fundraiser for Faulkner County students, community members had contributed $19,237.75.

Organizers said 3,503 names have been added to the card.

In a last effort to provide emergency funds for students in need, the Log Cabin has extended the opportunity to be part of the card.

Names and donations will be taken during business hours until the end of the business day Wednesday.

The card, a special section of the newspaper to be updated and printed again on New Years Day, contains the names of community members who have donated $1 or more to the fundraiser.

The funds are divided between area school counselors, who use the money over the school year to meet basic needs of students in trouble.

The fund has been used to purchase school supplies, doctor visits, warm clothing and food.

"We do not want to fall short meeting the needs of our local children in 2013 in their times of greatest need," said Log Cabin Publisher Alan English. "The spotlight is on them more than ever, and every bit people can give will help when they face tough moments."

Names and donations for the Community Christmas Card will be taken at the Log Cabin Democrat office at 1111 Main St., Suite 102 in Federal Plaza in Conway.

To donate by mail, send names and donations to Community Christmas Card, P.O. Box 969, Conway, AR 72033.
