Receiving an assignment sooner than he anticipated, Lt. Hal Fraser, of Conway, last night was ordered to report for duty at Camp Hardy, a civilian conservation corps camp near Mammoth Spring, Ark., and left at once for that place.

Three Conway men and one woman were to receive master’s degrees at the University of Arkansas’ winter convocation in Fayetteville today.

They were Jerry Hal Robbins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hal Robbins; David Gibson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hays Gibson; Glen McGraw and Dorthuelia Woods.

With his pointer, Smokey, staunch on point, Jim Young, of Conway, prepared to flush out a quail yesterday morning in a field near Conway. Young, who transported about a dozen caged quail with him to the field, took advantage of the sunny day to get in a little hunting practice and training for his pointers. The north zone quail season, which began Nov. 21, will close Saturday, Feb. 13.

Robert Leach, customer service specialist at Sherwin-Williams Paint, 960 Locust St., received the company’s "Above and Beyond" award for 2002. Leach is a native of Adona and a graduate of Perryville High School. He has worked at Sherwin-Williams for two years
