Fred Gordy, Jr., of Conway, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gordy and a freshman cadet at Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, ranked No. 1 in a class of 236 in physical education for the first semester, his parents were informed today.
Young Gordy’s average grade was 9.52 out of a possible 10.
He graduated from Conway High School last May.

The Faculty Trio at Arkansas State Teachers College will be presented in a recital in Ida Waldran Memorial Auditorium at 8 p.m. Tuesday. The trio includes Mrs. Horace Adams, assistant professor of music, violoncellist; Carl E. Forsberg, associate professor of music and director of the Little Symphony, violinist; and Leonard M. Phillips, instructor in music, pianist.

Patrick Larsen of Conway was presented the first-place award in the "Arkansas Act 1988" competition, sponsored by Henderson State University and Ouachita Baptist University through the Joint Educational Consortium.
Duane Henson, internationally recognized scupltor, selected Larsen’s mixed medium work, "Asphalt Signature," for the first-place $1,000 purchase award.
Jackie Guerin and Don Marr, both of Conway, also were represented in the exhibition.

Army Reserve Sgt. 1st Class Ronald Covington of Conway was recently promoted. He is a member of the 343rd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, a Little Rock-based Army Reserve unit deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
