UCA hosts 6-team softball tourney

Softballs will be flying early and often this weekend at Farris Field as the University of Central Arkansas hosts its fall invitational college tournament that will have six teams playing a round-robin schedule of 14 games over three days.

In addition to UCA, teams participating will be Ball State, Grambling State, Creighton, Northern Iowa and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Vandy romps past Bears in baseball

NASHVILLE — Vanderbilt, rated No. 1 in the country by Baseball America, defeated the University of Central Arkansas, 10-2, here Wednesday night.

The Commodores (4-1) got four hits and plated four runs in the fourth to break the game open.

Forrest Allday was 2 for 3 for the Bears (3-1). Clint Green allowed five runs on four hits in four innings to take the loss. The Bears host Jackson State and Kansas in weekend games.
