Coach Ray Cook’s Greenbrier High School cagers were nosed out by Formosa High School, 34 to 33, for the district No. 11 senior championship in the finals of the tournament staged at Morrilton Saturday night.

Both Formosa and Greenbrier will represent the district in the state tournament at Jonesboro later this month.

Centerville, Faulkner County champions, were eliminated in the semi-finals by Greenbrier, 31 to 27, Centerville had defeated Scotland, 36 to 24. Greenbrier disposed of Russellville Friday night and defeated Clarksville Saturday, 56-13, to reach the semi-finals.

Vilonia won from Coal Hill, 48 to 35, but was eliminated by Formosa, 44 to 25, in the semi-finals.

Scotland and Atkins won first and second place, respectively in the junior division.

The all-district senior team was selected as follows: Shilling of Centerville and Noggle of Vilonia, forwards; Day of Greenbrier, center; Glover of Greenbrier and Winningham of Formosa, guards.

Central Baptist College will have its first homecoming at 7 o’clock tonight at the Greenbrier gymnasium.

A queen will be selected from five candidates, nominated by the basketball team and voted on by the student body.

The five nominees include Phylis Haden, Norma Harris, Sharon Hoover, Donna Keeling and Non Wilkinson.

After the crowning ceremony the CBC Mustangs will clash with the Southern Baptist College Eagles.

Debbie Williams has recently joined the staff of Gingerbread House Daycare, 1157 Watkins St., as manager and director.

She studied childhood education at the University of Central Arkansas and has participated in several seminars and workshops on related subjects. She recently attended a workshop on early childhood and day care development.

Miss Williams is a Conway resident and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Williams of the Cherry Valley community.

Leah Valentine Smith, a graduate of Conway High School and a junior at Hendrix College, is spending a semester in Australia.

Smith will spend the Hendrix spring semester at Deakin University on Geelong, Australia.
