Mrs. E.T. Wyland, wife of the presiding elder of the Conway district, was re-elected vice president of the North Arkansas conference Woman’s Missionary Society at its annual meeting at Helena and Mrs. Sam B. Wiggins, wife of the pastor of the First Methodist Church at Conway, was presented with a life membership. Another life membership was presented to Mrs. D.Y. Thomas of Fayetteville, formerly of Conway.

One of the screen’s greatest box office hits, pairing two of the screen’s most popular romantic stars — Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson, George Stevens’ production of "Giant," a Warner Bros. re-release, opens Sunday at the Conway Theater.

Silver Creek, a six-piece country music band from Greenbrier, has advanced to the semifinals of the Marlboro Country Music Talent Roundup, and will appear Wednesday, April 6, at The Wrangler in Little Rock with nine other country acts.

The finals will be held April 13 at B.J.’s Star Studded Honky Tonk in Little Rock. The winning group will receive $7,500 and the opportunity to open the Marlboro Country Music Concert on Wednesday, April 20, at Baton Coliseum in Little Rock, which will feature George Strait, The O’Kanes and Kathy Mattea.
