Jim Stiefvator, circulation manager of the Log Cabin Democrat and student at Arkansas State Teachers College, caught a 5 1/2-pound bass about 6 p.m. Friday in Beaverfork Lake. He was using a Lucky 13 plug. Stiefvator said it took about 10 minutes to land the big bass.

Doug Hurley, of Conway, received the Alpha Rho Chi medal at the University of Arkansas School of Architecture commencement May 7 in Fayetteville. The medal is awarded to a graduating architecture student who has exhibited leadership and has shown promise of professional merit through attitude and personality.
Hurley, a son of Garlon and Marietta Hurley of Conway, received a bachelor of architecture degree. He is a 1980 graduate of Conway High School. His grandparents are Mrs. Tennie Davis, of Marshall, and Mrs. Versa Hurley, of Leslie.
