Announcement has been made of the engagement and approaching marriage of Edward A. Dilliard, son of Mrs. W.G. Dilliard and the late Mr. Dilliard, and Miss Lois Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Wilson, both of McCrory, Ark., the ceremony is to be solemnized Thursday, June 2 at 6 p.m., at the Methodist Church in McCrory. Mr. Dilliard is a grandson of the late J.W. Underhill of Conway and a former resident of this city.

Mike Yates, son of Dr. and Mrs. Hadley Yates, observed his sixth birthday Friday of last week with a party at the Bluebird Kindergarten. The honoree was presented a birthday book made by other children in the school. Jumping musical tops were given as favors. The birthday cake was topped with a plastic miniature train and red roses. Mrs. Yates served cake, ice cream and punch to the following: George Alread, Brooks Bright, Kevin Brown, Mary Beth Dunn, Julie Edwards, Randy Hobart, Yvonne Karber, Jean and Jo Matchett, Mark Nobles, Charles Posey, Randy Shock, Randy Joe Sliger and Kathy Spangler.

Matt Moix, a two-year starter for St. Joseph High school has announced he will attend the University of Central Arkansas and play basketball.

Moix, a 6-2 forward who shot 49 percent from the field and 77 percent from the foul line, averaged 13.0 points per game for the Bulldogs and was second on the team in assists and third in rebounding.

Moix led the Bulldogs in scoring and rebounding in the Class B state tournament last year. He also earned all-district and all-region citations.

Moix, who has a 3.0 grade-point average at St. Joseph, said he plans to major in business.

He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Moix of Conway.

The Mayflower Chamber of Commerce was on hand for a ribbon cutting at Kelly’s Tanning Salon in Mayflower. Kelly Baldwin and her husband, Derek, started the business and celebrated their membership into Mayflower’s chamber with the cutting.
