Owen White, former manager of the City cafe, 1014 Front St., who recently opened a cafe under his own name at 1011 1-2 Front St., will close his establishment June 1 and return to the management of the City cafe, he said today. Frank Moll, Jr., has been in charge since White left about two months ago.

Steven Swaffer, nine-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Swaffer of Conway, beamed with pride as he hoisted an eight-pound and five-pound catfish caught Monday night at the Lake Beaverfork spillway. Young Swaffer caught the five pounder and Dwight Matchett landed the eight. The fish were caught with casting rods on canned bait.

Two Conway students recently received bachelor of arts degrees during commencement exercises at Ouachita Baptist University at Arkadelphia.

James Timothy Ferguson received degrees in religious education and commercial art. Ancil Ambrose Lea III earned a degree in political science.

On her last day of school Wednesday, Jessie Ross of St. Joseph won a playoff for third place in the Arkansas High School Girls Overall Golf Championship.

Ross shot 87 at Pine Bluff’s Harbor Oaks.

Ross, the Class AA state champion, said her goal going in Wednesday was to improve on her score last year at Harbor Oaks as a freshman in the Overall.

She shot 95 last year.

Ross said she would continue to play the Arkansas State Golf Association junior designated circuit.
