Four pretty Conway High School girls are competing for the honor of being named queen of the annual "hi-day" celebration this week.

Candidates are Misses Theda Woodruff, Mildred Carter, Marcelle Clark and Emma Carolyn Calhoun. The queen will name all but one of her maids. The junior high school will select one.

Three newspaper delivery boys held their newspaper and display cups awarded them this morning by the Conway Optimist Club as outstanding newsboys in Conway. They are Charles Crain, son of Mrs. Juanita Crain, Arkansas Democrat carrier; Gerald Grummer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Grummer, Log Cabin Democrat carrier; and Rodney Sherrer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sherrer, Arkansas Gazette carrier.

The University of Central Arkansas’ rifle team split two matches Saturday with previously undefeated Henderson State University at Arkadelphia.

UCA won the first match 1,292-1,267. Henderson came back to take the second match 1,277-1,260.

Jack Perry led UCA with 536 points in both matches.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Nikole A. Dorsett has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Dorsett is a daughter of Ted Dorsett of Conway and is a 2003 graduate of Vilonia High School.
