Mrs. A.H. Allen entertained a group of wives of soil conservation staff members at Conway with a party Thursday afternoon at her home. Games were played and favors given guests. At the close refreshments were served. Mrs. A.A. Parsons will give a Christmas party for the group at her home Dec. 8.

A group of Conway High School girls will reign Friday night at the annual Hi-Day celebration at the Young Memorial Stadium. Becky Joyner was selected queen by the football squad; Margo Gibson and Ann Young, sophomore maids; Peggy Moore and Lou Ann Curtis, junior maids; Brenda Turner and Mary Louise Doyle, senior maids; and Suzy Mabry, maid of honor. The coronation will take place before the football game between the Wampus Cats and the Mabelvale Lions.

Nikki Hall of Greenbrier demonstrated basic "cowboy skills" to second-grade students yesterday at Ida Burns Elementary School. Ms. Hall, with the assistance of J.R. Barnett, explained some of the points in horseback riding and explained several rodeo events including roping. The students are beginning the study of a unit on cowboys.

Charlotte Vann, director of special education for the Conway School District, presented an award for state speech pathologist of the year to Susan Hickey, who works in the district. The Paula J. Gober Award is presented by the Arkansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association for distinguished service. Hickey is beginning her 14th year of employment in Conway.
