A 135-pound alligator gar was pulled from the Arkansas River, west of Mayflower, Saturday by Golden T. Bratcher and Bob Welling. The gar measured six feet and nine inches in length and measured 33 inches around. The gar became entangled in a hoop net and between 20 and 30 minutes were needed to land it. It almost upset the fisherman’s boat when it was finally hauled in. The gar was killed by a cable around its neck. Bratcher, 60, formerly worked in the underground atomic energy test area near Las Vegas, Nev. Welling, 37, has been a commercial fisherman for four years.
