Beta Sigma Phi
Laureate Alpha Omega

Laureate Alpha Omega chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met this week at the home of Sondra Pugh with eight members present. President Vernelle Crews called the meeting to order by leading the Opening Ritual. Treasurer Janet Jones stated that she had sent our donation to the Log Cabin Democrat's Community Christmas Card.

Social chair Carol Bales reported that she has been working with Nancy Penny from Laureate Nu Chapter regarding plans for the upcoming Valentine Queens' coronation dinner which will be held on February 13th. The chapters' 2018 Valentine Queens will be announced at the dinner.

Vernelle Crews gave a program on her recent, very enjoyable trip to Cuba. The meeting was adjourned with members repeating the Closing Ritual and Mizpah. During social time, our hostess served chicken tortilla soup and broccoli cornbread with brownies and ice cream for dessert.

Town and Country Garden Club

The Town and Country Garden Club met at Linda Langley's house in Greenbrier for their January meeting with Lynita Langley Ware serving as co-hostess.

They served an Old Fashion New Year's lunch of pinto beans, greens, cornbread, green salad and potatoes. To top this off, a chocolate dessert and fruit salad completed the meal.

The program was on the basics of flower arranging and what tools you would use for your flowers to make a stable arrangement that would last for some time. The program was presented by our club member Peggy Thompson. This was enjoyable and very informative.

A discussion was held by members on what programs we would like and what civic projects we would like to continue in the future. We will survey members to get their input on these topics so we can better plan for the coming year.

Next month's meeting will be at the home of Jane Havens with Sheila presenting the program.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
