Hoping to draw attention to the group of immigrants known as “Dreamers,” dozens of Catholic nuns, priests and lay people demonstrating in Washington D.C. were arrested on Feb. 27. The group was demonstrating to try and persuade lawmakers to protect undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children. Part of the 200 demonstrators were arrested in the Capitol Rotunda. The “Dreamers” were granted protection during the Obama administration through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, but President Donald Trump has tried to rescind the protection. The demonstrators past the Supreme Court singing hymns and held signs that read, “Catholics Stand with Dreamers.”

Anti-Semitic incidents on the rise in U.S.

According to a recent study by the Anti-Defamation League, there was a 57 percent increase in anti-Semitic incidents in 2017. According to the report, the 1,986 incidents in 2017 were the highest total since 1944 and the largest single-year increase since the league began collecting data in 1979.
