Two Faulkner County residents died in a two-car collision earlier this week, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

The crash occurred on HWY 365 in Mayflower at 4 p.m. on Monday, the report stated.

According to police, 54-year-old Reginald Riley of Conway was traveling southbound on HWY 365. As he was turning left into 391, Riley's vehicle, a 2003 Honda Civic, struck the front end of an oncoming vehicle before sliding to a rest in the southbound lane.

The second vehicle, a 1998 Mercury driven by Kurt Peterson, 30 of Conway, spun into a ditch on the east side of the roadway and rolled over one time, according to the report.

Both drivers sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

Authorities described the weather as cloudy and the roads as dry at the time of the crash.

There have been at least 47 fatalities on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary data.
