Alderman Andy Hawkins of Conway has filed to run as a candidate for the open seat in the 70th District, Arkansas House of Representatives.

Hawkins currently sits on the Conway City Council representing Ward 1, Position 1, which he has done the past 23 years.

When asked why he is so dedicated to public service, he answered simply: “Because I love Conway."

Hawkins graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a BA in journalism.

He has been in the insurance industry the past 35 years and is currently affiliated with the McGhee Insurance Agency and HJC Insurance.

He is an original member of the Conway Advertising and Promotions Commission and is a past President of the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Hawkins, a former public address announcer for the Arkansas Razorback Football games, also volunteers as the public address announcer for the Conway High School Wampus Cat football team.

He has been married to Kim Hawkins for 43 years. Other family members include one daughter Meg, a daughter-in-law Brandi, and a grandson, Kyle. Andy and Kim are members of First United Methodist Church in Conway. Meg, Brandi and Kyle attend New Life Church in Conway.
