CONWAY COUNTY -- One man died and another escaped after the truck they were in was submerged in Cadron Creek while backing a boat into the water.

As of press time Wednesday, neither man's identity had been released.

Witnesses on scene said the driver was attempting to back a boat into the water shortly after noon Wednesday. However, the truck went too far back and started sinking.

One man jumped from the truck before it was fully submerged, though authorities did not specify whether it was the driver or passenger.

The Conway County Sheriff's Office oversaw the water rescue attempt because the boat was being loaded on the Conway County side of the creek. The Conway Fire Department assisted.

The Conway County Dive Rescue team dragged the creek for more than an hour before locating the truck. Two divers then searched the truck and the surrounding area but weren't immediately able to locate the missing man.

CFD Chief Mike Winter said the man's body was recovered by the dive team around 3:30 p.m.

Calls to the Conway County Coroner's Office were not returned as of press time Wednesday.

The Log Cabin Democrat will update the story with the victim's name when it becomes available.
