During a ceremony at Guy-Perkins Schools Friday, Faulkner County Judge Jim Baker proclaimed April 13, 2018 as Thunderbirds Day in Faulkner County.

Both Baker and Guy Mayor Sam Higden were in attendance during for the proclamation, which reads as follows:

“WHEREAS, the Thunderbirds, Guy-Perkins’s boys’ basketball team won the 1A State Championship on March 10, 2018; and WHEREAS, the Thunderbirds, on their path to the state championship, earned the titles of 2018 District and Regional champions; and placed Carson Petrucelli as the State Tournament’s Most Valuable Player; and WHEREAS, the Thunderbirds’ Coach, John Hutchcraft, a 2018 Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame inductee, ended his career with the school’s 11th State Championship; and WHEREAS, the Thunderbirds, continuously displayed characteristics of tremendous dedication, hard work, determination, and good sportsmanship while winning the State 1A Championship for the second straight year; and WHEREAS, the Thunderbirds, and all the team members are a symbol of pride we hold dear in Faulkner County.”

Superintendent Shade Gilbert said they were honored to have Baker and Higden come out and do this for the district and were very appreciative for the time they took out of their schedule to make this happen.

“We were just very proud of our kids, our school and all the accomplishments of our student athletes,” he said.
