With the help of Julie’s Sweet Shoppe & Bakery, The Salvation Army of Conway will provide free donuts to veterans & first responders at 201 Skyline Dr. Suite 39 on Friday, June 1 in observance of National Donut Day.
Established by The Salvation Army in 1938, National Donut Day is held annually on the first Friday in June to honor the Donut Lassies who served the sweet treats to soldiers on the frontlines of World War I.
The Salvation Army Donut Lassies are often credited with popularizing the sweet treat in the United States when the troops returned home from war. The donut now serves as a symbol of the services and comfort The Salvation Army provides to more than 23 million people each year.
To commemorate the day, The Salvation Army Conway will host a “Do Good Donut Day” serving the small, sugary symbol of hope to veterans and first responders.
