The University of Central Arkansas Board of Trustees approved five contracts and tabled two others during a special called meeting Thursday.

Trustees joined via teleconference. All items were approved 6-0. Trustee Shelia Vaught was absent.

The board tabled a five-year contract with EAB Global Inc. for a little more than $3 million for “student marketing, recruitment, and enrollment services,” as well as amending an existing job contract order with Nabholz Construction Services to convert existing space in Donaghey Hall to a welcome center.

"The two contracts that were removed will likely be voted on at our next board meeting, which is Aug. 17," spokesman Christina Madsen said, adding that the board could call a special meeting earlier.

University officials had planned to have subcontractors bid on converting the space in Donaghey Hall formerly occupied by Uncle T's on July 17 and start the project in July or August. The project is estimated to cost $675,000.

The board approved a $309,000 contract for a new roof on the remaining sections of Mashburn Hall after "unexpected additional damage to decking" depleted the funds set aside last year to complete the multiple sections of the roof. The roof is expected to be complete by Oct. 1.

Trustees approved two contracts with Nabholz for improvements to Old Main and New Hall. Nabholz will install boilers, pumps, piping and other equipment to provide New Hall with hot water from Hughes Hall. The project is scheduled to be complete before school starts.

The company will also replace the chiller, boiler and cooling tower for Old Main. That project, which is estimated to cost $299,490, will not be complete before school starts.

The board also approved a $300,000 contract with WER Architects/Planners for "preliminary architectural services for a new Fine and Performing Arts building." The contract can be extended up to seven years.
