Sidney Moncrief, an Arkansas native and retired professional basketball player, will be the keynote speaker at the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce’s Minority Enterprise Development awards gala. The event will take place Thursday, Sept. 18, at 6:30 p.m. in McCastlain Hall on the University of Central Arkansas campus.

Moncrief is a five-time NBA All-Star, five-time member of the NBA All-Defensive team, a two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, and an NBA All-Pro. He is also a former head coach for a college basketball team and a former assistant coach in the NBA.

Off the court, Moncrief served on the board of directors for a Fortune 500 company and as president of various auto sales businesses. He is the author of five books: "Sidney Moncrief: My Journey to the NBA," "Your Passport to Reinventing You," "Your Passport to Becoming a Valuable Team Player," "Your Passport to Back2Basics Leadership," and "Your Passport to Manhood."

Moncrief is a presenter through his company, Moncrief One Team. It specializes in personal and professional development of individuals, teams and organizations by providing team enhancement, career readiness, consulting and coaching.

The MED awards gala is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of minority entrepreneurs and the individuals and organizations committed to advancing minority-owned businesses. The nomination process for the five categories of awards has ended, and the recipients will be announced prior to the event.
