Preceptor Beta Kappa chapter of Beta Sigma Phi
Members of Preceptor Beta Kappa chapter of Beta Sigma Phi joined with other Conway Beta Sigma Phi Chapters on Thursday, Feb. 16, (postponed from Monday due to inclement weather) at Moulan’s Restaurant in the Conway Commons. Hosting chapter was Laureate Alpha Delta.
Members were welcomed to the event by Lou Heigel of LAD. Members enjoyed delicious food and desserts from the oriental buffet.
Each chapter then announced and crowned its queen. The 2011 Queen Sandra Schrekenhofer announced that the 2012 Preceptor Beta Kappa Queen is Lynn Riggins.
Lynn was then crowned and presented with the traditional Beta Sigma Phi yellow rose and a lovely silver tray from the Chapter.
The next meeting of PBK will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the home of Gena Bishop. Co-hostesses are Anna Boudreaux and Janie Carpenter. Susan Salter will present the program.
Conway Civic League
Members of Conway Civic League gathered for the February meeting on Wednesday, the 15th, in the Fireplace Room of Conway Country Club.
Tables were decorated with children’s blocks depicting buildings and streets of a city. The menu included tomato basil soup, broccoli quiche, salad, peach cobbler and beverages. Barbara Satterfield gave the invocation for the meal.
Mayor Tab Townsell presented the program on the theme for the month, “Simply Growning,” and reported on the state of the city of Conway.
He was particularly jubilant as the meeting took place just after the tax had passed the day before. He began his talk with a big “yahoo!” and shared many interesting statistics about our city, reporting on several ways that the new tax would help.
Sandra Hudson led the group in reciting the Collect.
Vice president Sharon Lessenberry presided at the meeting, filling in for President Marsha McClanahan.
The treasurer’s report was given by Sandra Hudson.
A letter of resignation was read from Betty Fraser’s daughter, also giving Betty’s new address.
Hostesses for the meeting included Lulu Thompson, Beneva Farris, Molsie Osborne, Barbara Satterfield, Eve Torian and Meredith Wilbourn.
“Happy Birthday” was sung to February honorees Ruth Frenkel, Mae Williams and Betty Courtway.
Membership chair Judy Holman asked that nominations for a new member to fill Betty Fraser’s place be submitted to her by Friday, March 16.
The March meeting will occur on Wednesday, the 21st, at noon and will feature a program on the theme, “Simply Delightful-Decorating for Easter,” by Susie Walker.
The meeting was adjourned by a motion from Pat Ott who gave a big “yahoo!” in honor of Mayor Townsell.
TOPS holds open house
TOPS club AR402, Conway held its open house Jan. 31 at First Church of the Nazarene. Members and guests were treated to an inspirational talk by former state coordinator Jonalu Mackey, who led the TOPS clubs in Arkansas for 15 years.
The first Arkansas chapter was AR2 in Little Rock in 1961. TOPS chapters from over the state will celebrate their 50th year in April in Hot Springs.
Conway AR402 was started in 1985 and has five current members who have met their goals and are not KOPS, or Keep Off Pounds Sensibly. Take Off Pounds Sensibly is the support that everyone needs while trying to lose weight.
The group meeting time is on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.
The non-profit organization welcomes all men, women and children age seven and older with a guardian for one free visit and complimentary weigh-in.
