The Faulkner County Library, in partnership with The Urban Farming Project and The Faulkner County Museum, is planning a month of film, discussion and food to celebrate local organic food and sustainable living.

The month will culminate with a Backyard Gourmet event on June 16, featuring food from the garden at the rear of the library, demonstrations, and live music.

The library is currently accepting recipes and garden tales for inclusion in a cookbook, "The Backyard Gourmet", whose profits will benefit the Urban Farming Project. Send recipes to Nancy@fcl.org, or Sandra@laluchaspace.com, or drop them off at the library at 1900 Tyler St. in Conway. Recipes can also be added to the library Facebook page.

The library requests that the recipes feature local ingredients, as well as stories and garden lore. Submissions must include the contibutor’s name and contact information.

Other events for the month include two Arkansas film premieres, "The Garden Summer," a film by Hailey Wist on May 18, and "The Greenhorns" with Cody Hopkins leading a discussion about young farmers on June 12.

The library will also host the films "Food Inc." on May 22, "Queen of the Sun" on May 29, "The Future of Food" on June 5, and "Seed Swap" by Dr. Brian Campbell of UCA. All film times are at 7 p.m.

All library events are free and open to the public. For more information, email Nancy@fcl.org or call the library at 501-327-7482.
