A signal honor was paid Dr. E.P.J. Garrott, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Conway in his election to deliver the annual sermon at the meeting of the next Southern Baptist convention in Richmond, Va., May 1938, at the closing session of the convention in New Orleans Friday night. The Rev. E.H. Westmoreland of Leland, Miss., who recently held a meeting in Conway, was elected alternate.

Arthur Evans is valedictorian and Jo Ellen Love is salutatorian of the 1962 Senior Class of Vilonia High School.

Evans is editor of the 1962 Eagle, the school yearbook. He is Vilonia’s junior fire marshal, treasurer of the Beta Club, and president of the Science Club. He represented Vionia at Boys’ State last summer.

Duwayne Bradley of Clinton received a congratulatory hug from 6-year-old Melissa Swift of North Little Rock prior to graduation ceremonies at the University of Central Arkansas. Bradley received a bachelor’s degree in geography.

Conway High School senior Jennifer Womack laughed as she tried to figure out which direction to place the mortarboard before commencement on Thursday evening at University of Central Arkansas Farris Center.
