With only 5,300 feet of concrete — only 20 feet more than a mile — yet to be laid on the Conway-Palarm highway, officials of the A.C. Campbell Construction Company announced today the job would be finished not later than next Monday. The unpaved portion is north of Mayflower.

50 years ago (1962)

Mrs. M.L. Black, Mrs. B.A. Lewis and Mrs. H.R. Wilbourn were hostesses to a coke party last Saturday morning at the Black home in honor of Miss Kay Lyford, bride-elect of Sid McCollum. The serving table was centered with a fruit plate. Arrangements of pink roses were used throughout the entertaining rooms. Refreshments of cookies, fruit and dip were served guests. Special guests were Mrs. George T. Lyford, mother of the bride-elect, and Mrs. W.H. McCollum, mother of the bridegroom-elect.

Scott Waller of Conway Hart’s Seafood struck out seven and yielded only one hit in sparking his team to an easy American Legion victory last night at the UCA diamond.

The Conway Gold 10-under girls fast-pitch team recently won the ASA Class C State Championship held in Bentonville. This was the team’s first year together with only two of the girls having previously played fast-pitch softball.
