SPECIAL TO THE LOG CABIN

Dr. Bob Reising returns to the Faulkner County Library at 7 p.m. on Feb. 1 with a video retrospective on Jim Thorpe, the man who made the super bowl possible. Jim Thorpe, (Wa-Tho_Huk or Bright Path) was known as the greatest athlete of the 20th century. He was an Olympian, a professional baseball player and a professional football player. Thorpe grew up in the Sac and Fox nation in Oklahoma.

Dr. Reising, the world’s foremost scholar on Jim Thorpe, has assembled rare footage of the renowned athlete, along with sound clips. He will share insights about the life and achievements of Jim Thorpe.

Dr. Reising starred as a catcher on Michigan State University’s 1954 Big Ten Conference championship team. He went on to become the head baseball coach at Duke and Furman universities and the University of South Carolina. As a professor of English at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, he became a scholar and expert on the life of Jim Thorpe. He is currently the evening supervisor of the Academic Success Center at UCA.
