Beta Sigma Phi Laureate Alpha Omega

Laureate Alpha Omega chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held its annual Beginning Day event, a potluck salad supper, on Saturday afternoon at the home of Linda Alverson with nine members present.

Our hostess had decorated the table with a flowered tablecloth, candles and miniature rose bushes in floral teapots. Members repeated the Beta Sigma Phi Grace and everyone enjoyed a variety of meat, vegetables, fruit and green salads.

Janet Jones passed out our new yearbooks, using the theme "Expanding Our Family Tree With Books," a variation of the International theme. As program chair she suggested that we each report on a book we’ve read about a family, either real or fictional.

Plans were also begun for our ways and means project in September, and activities for the upcoming Sister Social in October were discussed.

The first meeting in September will be hosted by Carol Bales.

TOPS Chapter 541, Conway

August was a big month for our chapter. We elected new leaders for the upcoming year. They are: Pat Blencowe, leader; Steve Laca, co-leader; Carolyn Knopp, secretary; and Kathie Laca, treasurer. Pat appointed Sandy Malson to be the weight recorder and Barbara Murray to the assistant weight recorder.

The chapters first big function on the agenda is to sponsor a fun day. All chapters in the state are invited to join us in this happening.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Club, Inc. is an international organization to support our members as they take off and keep off pounds sensibly. We do this though member support and easy meal planning. We have programs during meeting on various subjects concerning sensible weight loss and health subjects members are interested in.

Our chapter meets on Tuesday morning at the McGee Center, 3800 College Ave., in Conway. We have weigh-in from 9:15-9:50 a.m. The meeting starts 10 a.m. sharp. For information, call Pat Blencowe at 501-336-8144 or Steve Laca at 501-339-1175.

Everyone is welcome to come. The first meeting is free and a good way to see how TOPS works.
